Lions Out-Do Browns for Monday Night Melt-Down Honors

Lions Respond to the Challenge

Lions 23, Packers 27
Faced with an almost sure win last night, the Detroit Lions pulled off an amazing come-from-ahead loss, capping the blowing of a 20 point 4th quarter lead with a final play face mask, leading to the extra play, which Packers QB Aaron Rodgers turned into a wild Hail Mary into the end zone for the game winning touchdown.

Stunned fans are still being dug out of the Kat Box today.

But let's let Lions coach Jim Caldwell call it like it is:  "Look. We get really tired of hearing how the Cleveland Browns are the most losingest team in the NFL. They can't even carry our panties. We haven't won a championship since 1957, which is before color was invented, and we're the ones that went 0-16 just a few years ago, and it's the Lions that won that Moldy Carpet Trophy and NOT the Browns.  The Browns don't have ONE single Moldy Carpet Trophy hanging in their stadium, so they can just shut up.  And I'm not going to let my guys down on a Monday Night the week after the Browns blew a game on the final play with a blocked field goal.  We topped them, right?  I didn't see them blowing a 20-point lead AND committing a penalty on the final play.  Our fans actually celebrated for a minute there. We actually snatched defeat right out of the jaws of victory.  I don't see the Browns doing that. This isn't "Draft Day" ya know?  Cleveland can eat my shorts."

Strong words, but he's got a point.  The Lions (4-8), after winning 3 straight, reclaim their membership in the Basement, and are STILL only one game out of first in the Doormat NFC.

  2. Best coach quotes ever. Thank you, Wacko for setting the record straight. Browns, Raiders, Buccaneers all have proud losing tradirions, but when you look at all tge facts, no one out loses the Lions. I gotta hand it to them, I can't think of a more amazing way to lose a game. I listened to a clip of the Lions radio broadcast from the game finish. The announcers were not shocked. It was more matter of fact. "Yep, Lions lose folks."

    1. I didn't realize how ridiculous a loss it was until I saw the play BEFORE, where the Packers did 3 laterals, the last being an absurd 20-yard back-fling to Rodgers. Rodgers had nowhere to go and the face mask was pretty much the result of the stumbling and bumbling, and an accident. The Packers boneheaded their way to a victory.

    2. Yes, and the guy didn't really do a face mask. His hand bumps Rodgers' face mask, but her really grabs the shoulder pad. But no point in blaming the call, someone was already tackling Rodgers so no need to pile on. Bumbling and stumbling their way through the bonehead forest. But, it is the LIONS after all.
