DOORMAT DIVISION WEEK 4 WRAP UP!!!!

DOORMAT DIVISION WEEK FOUR WRAP-UP

There is only ONE un-victorious team left, the illustrious Detroit Kittens, and tonight they have a chance to separate themselves from the rest of the NFL and reach 0-4.  They’re at Seattle, so things look good.  The Seahags haven’t been perfect, but the Lions have, so we’ll go with the Kitties pulling down an L and making it a thing of beauty.

And, in case you hadn’t noticed, it’s the Year of the Penalty.  Buffalo logged in yesterday with 17 for 135 yards the Jets with 14 for 163, though those were Imperial Yards.   That’s an insane amount of yardage and penalties.   The Jets won.

WEEK 4  WRAP UP

BLOW OUT OF THE WEEK

Texans 21, Falcons 48
It was 42-0 before the Falcons started choosing fans from the stands to play D.   The Toxins are rounding into shape, folks.  4 Turnovers, two returned for touchdowns.  Wow.

THE WILD FINISH

Jags 13, Colts 16 (OT)
There were a lot of close ones this week, teams pulling out last second losses in dire situations that could have ended in a demoralizing victory, but the Jags have no competition:  with the game tied with 6 seconds to go, placekicker Jason Myers sails one right- but WAIT the Colts called time out.  The Jags line up again and…Myers sails it again!  Overtime!  Then, the Jags got close enough for Myers to…hook one to the left.  Finally, out of options, the Colts kick a field goal themselves and just take the dingdong win.  Gags move into first place in the Doormat AFC.

Browns 27,  Chargers 30
The Chargers were game.  The Brownies actually scored points. But they pulled it off- a last second FG by the Blots keeps the Blank Helmet Dream moving.  Cleveland, you disappoint like nobody else.  And we love you for it.

DOORMAT EXHIBITION IN LONDON

Dolphins 14, Jets 27
I was worried when the Jags were not being sent back to represent the Doormat in London this year, but never fear, Florida has a surplus of talent in the Basement, and the Floppers delivered.  Pip pip!  Cheerio!  For he’s a jolly good punter!  Sadly, the Flops fired coach Philbin before he could even finish his fish and chips at Heathrow.  That’s no way to run a Doormat franchise..unless you are going to promote the guy all the players like on the coaching staff to run the team.  We’ll see.

DEATH MARCH SEASON

49ers 3,  Packers 17
After getting shelled two weeks in a row, this score at least looks close.  Don’t be fooled.  Though the 49er D played real football, the 49er offense is so bad that…they may not win another game.  I watched this one, and I don’t see how they will. The O-line can’t run block, can’t pass block, QB Kaepernick appears to have lost all his confidence, sailing balls out of bounds and scudding passes over the middle (‘scudding’ is bouncing the pass), visibly frustrated receivers, it’s all there.  48 points after 4 games is WAY OUT IN THE LEAD for lowest point total.   Not even Jacksonville can touch that, and that’s really really saying something.
Also, Levi stadium really has a problem- there is nobody in the 50-yard line seats.  They call it the Red Hole (how charming), and it really looks weird when the cameras scan the seats.  It’s like a Division II college game being played there.  Oh, wait, I think I got it.

THE REST OF THE SORRY PILE

Raiders 20,  Bears 23
Coming into Chicago, riding a two game winning streak, the Raiders aren’t going to give up their Doormat Team of the Decade status easily.  They aren’t going to just hand it to daBares.  And they didn’t.  Kicking a FG with two seconds to go, daBears are forced to take the win, at home, when they could have effectively ended their season, and gone on a losing streak for the ages.  Tough luck, newbie.

Bucs 23,  Panthers 37
Boots QB Jameis Winston gets it really going for TB with FOUR INTs – one a pick-six.
Bucs toss in a fumble return for a Panther TD, and these guys look solid.  Only problem is their division has the Aints.  Says here the Aints win both of those.  Unless they already lost to them.  What do I know, I live in the basement with a broom closet for company.

Eagles  20,  Redskins 23
The wheels are coming off.  There is no spare.

Chiefs 21,  Bengals 36
7 Field goals by the Cheaps.  Good GOD.

THE WORST STATS FOR WEEK  4

Points:           3     49ers
First Downs:  8           49ers
Total Yards:  196         49ers
Passing:     96              Steelers
Rushing:   54               Texans
Red Zone Failure:        0-whatever   Chiefs
Turnovers:  5               Bucs
Raspberry Turnovers (for TDs): 2      Bucs,  2  Texans
Punts:  8                      NYG

Penalties:  14/163        Jets   (9 teams had more than 80 yards in penalties. I have never seen that)

aaaAAAAAAAnd That's the View from the Basement!!!!!

NFL Week 14 Predictions: Paper Lions Cream Cheeseheads

That's right, folks. It's about time for the Detroit Kittens to win a game and it's just in time to screw up the Packers' road to the NFC North Crown (one of the smaller, more tarnished jewels in the NFL Universe). The Pack will win the North, but it won't be pretty.

And who is that sitting on the bench there? Number Zero? Of course, it's George Plimpton, the Paper Lion of 1964. The Oracle claims that is when all the Detroit woes and the hex began.

Allowing a journalist to put on a sacred NFL jersey and take the field as quarterback for five plays offended the Gods of the NFL up there in Valhalla or somewhere like that. I hear they drink a lot of wine made from honey there. Yech. What's wrong with a warm PBR and a hot dog? They have good hot dogs in Chicago at Soldier Field, especially the ones with cucumber and onions on them. MMMM.

Anyway, number 0 offended the NFL Gods and so they put a hex on Detroit that took effect on the last game of the 1964 season when the Cleveland Browns romped over the Lions to take the NFL Championship--the last season without a Super Bowl.

Since then the Lions, er, Kittens, have not been in a NFL Championship game, and according to the Oracle, they never will until George Plimpton officially apologies to the Gods, but we aren't sure if that is going to happen because he died in 2003. Sorry, George, great book, but bad for the Lions. Please find Valhalla up there and apologize!

Until then, the Kittens will continue to find the most spectacular ways to lose, no matter how good or bad they are.

But there is a bright moment on the horizon. This week they stagger into Green Bay to take on the Packers who are locked in 8-4 tie for the NFC North with the Chicago Care Bears. The Kittens will somehow find their mojo and will clock the Packers 35-21.

And now for the rest of the predictions:

Denver-28
Oakland-13

Dallas- 24
Cincinnati- 28

Kansas City- 14
Cleveland- 17

Tennessee- 14
Indianapolis- 28

Carolina- 17

NY Jets- 10
Jacksonville- 9

NFL Doormats...as the Turkey Spins

Crudinals hope to use the sneak crawl -between-their-legs-and-score-a-touchdown play against the Lambs
The Gaguars, Yikings, and Pansies don't play this week. So not a lot of doormat action, but there are some great turkeys to see in Week 9 as we have some can't miss Doormat match ups among the worst teams in the NFL.

But before we get to the spinning turkey, here is a quick look at one of the greatest Doormat teams of all time. the 1933 Cincinnati Reds (that's football Reds, but they were so bad it may have been the baseball team having some fun and getting their teeth removed on the cheap in the off-season). In 1933 the Reds scored 38 points in 10 games (tying them for second with Detroit for the all-time low-scoring complete season). However, in 1934 the Reds only scored 10 points in 8 games before the NFL asked them to leave the league because they were so bad (and the owners were so crooked).  To get some perspective, the St. Louis Lambs have managed 87 points in seven games (but 31 on them last week), and the Jacksonville Jaguars have mustered 98 points in 8 games (9 times better than the Reds).  So the Reds really were about as Doormat as you can get.

But now it's time for our current Doormats predictions for Week 9 as the Worst of the NFL continue their quest for the Moldy Carpet. OK, Don, spin the frozen turkey:

Seahags- 8
Cowpies- 16
(This may be the doormat game of the week)

Dolts- 13
Falcons- 28
(Peyton wants back on the field, but not this week)

Floppers-21
Cheeps-18
(Actually, this might be the doormat game of the week and the Floppers finally get a W)

Brownies- 28
Texans- 14

Bungles- 10
Titanics- 31

Buncos- 7
Raydurz- 21

Lambs- 3
Crudinals- 14
(OK, never mind, this is definitely the doormat game of the week.)

Though the turkey spun to the Crudinals, I have to say, I believe the Lambs will ride the wave started last week and soak the Crudinals in Arizona.

The oracle from the basement has spoken. Gentlemen, post your predictions!

NFL Worst Predictions Week 7

New Offensive Front Line for Miami

The NFL worst move into Week 7 showing great signs of true badness.

For the Dolphins, nothing else has worked, so the Miami Floppers decided to think out of the box and go with a new front line for pass protection. Chad Henne is going to need it as he has only thrown for 868 yards all season and balanced his passing with 4 interceptions and 4 touchdowns. The tough part is he has been eating tartan turf most of the road games. At least he gets soft, moist grass at home. This new front line, hopefully, will distract pass rushers long enough for Henne to actually throw the ball while not running for his life and screaming for his mother.

This week the pass rushers are the Denver Donkeys, a defense that gives up 300 yards a game average. So, their average. But this should be the Doormat Division matchup of the week. Denver was in the Doormat Bowl last year and may get there again this year. Miami has shown this season that they can lose any game. Should be a good time on the moldy duct tape covered couch.

And speaking of offense and defense ratings, the Patsies have the top rated offense and the lowest rated defense in the NFL through week 6. Who says you can't win without defense? Oh, they didn't always win? My bad.

And now it's time for all of the NFL Week 7 Predictions for the Doormat Division:

Seahags- 12
Brownies- 9

Donkeys- 24
Floppers- 21

Deadskins- 17
Pansies- 14
(Actually, this is a game the Pansies can win. But they won't.)

Cheeps- 10
Raiders- 35

Steelers- 21
Crudinals- 17

Lambs- 0
Cowpies- 16

Dolts- 13
Saints- 36

Gaguars- 7
Ravens- 28

And now for the blowout of the week--

Green Bay- 46
Yikings- 6

And let's give a Doormat shout out to the NY Zeps. Your doormat is at the design shop right now.

Bolts- 28

Zeps- 10

Tailgating Doormat Style

The Vegan Hotdog with its signature gray color and modeled texture
NFL football is not the same without a good tailgate party before the game, but what if your team is a doormat? What makes for the perfect doormat division tailgate buffet? Vegan, of course.

The best way to serve a vegan hotdog is boiled for twenty minutes in vegetable broth. This usually gives the hotdog a nice squeaky-on-the-tooth bite as it pops open and spurts hot vegetable broth into your mouth.

Covered with really hot Chinese mustard and arugula and served on a whole-grain, unleavened bun, this hotdog  will have a mashy consistency that will really let you know you are in the NFL cellar.

Serve your vegan hotdog with salt-free, organically-grown vegetable chips, baked not fried, a nice Kosher  pickle, and Ranier beer.

Of course, that is if you feel like a loser. But, hey, none of us really feel like losers, right? I'm serving Italian beef sandwiches, potato chips with avocado dip (lots and lots of garlic please) and an ice-cold quart of Ranier.

What would you serve at the perfect Doormat tailgate party?

NFL Doormats Week 5 Predictions

Surely the Philadelphia Eagles will find a way to stay in the air and out of the cellar, but they sure do look like a doormat these days, especially because they have managed to mostly beat themselves like repentent monks slapping their heads with wooden boards with their sins engraved on them ("Fumbled in the Endzone," "Forgot to block anybody").

And this might be a turning point in history for the Eagles (Beagles? Sparrows? Eeekles?) because this week they get to play a team that is storming its way out of the basement, the Buffalo Nils. Can Vick lay a giant Eagle egg and throw for another 400 yards and lose again and look like a loser doing it? Or will the Eagles finally get off the ground and eat a mouse or two? Only an afternoon on the couch with nachos will tell.

And speaking of the couch, it's time to settle down on the old brown sofa with the beer stains, check the schedule, and make this week's NFL Week 5 predictions. No spinning turkey this week. The Oracle is going to be much more scientific. He's checking the odds in Vegas.

Cheaps- 18
Dolts- 21
Yes, the Dolts will finally win a game. If they don't, it's 0-5 and they really will be looking like a dark horse for the Moldy Carpet.

Crudinals- 2
Yikings- 3
Jeeze, I really can't predict this game. How bad can it get? This might be the best game of the week for the Doormat Division. Seriously, Yikes lose.

Seahags- 14
Giants- 36

Saints- 36
Pansies- 17

Bungles- 28
Gaguars- 31

Bolts- 21
Buncos- 10

And one other game this week, the Jets (Zepplins?) and the Patsies, this should be the top game of the week, in a perfect network NFL world, but these guys are both smelling a little ripe this year. I think these teams are starting to turn. No Doormat Division for these guys, but look for a really bad game here.

Gentlemen, make your predictions!
